Smart Brick Technology Explained
In recent LEGO news, the LEGO Group has officially unveiled LEGO SMART Play, a major new play platform that brings interactive technology into traditional brick building. Revealed at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, this new system introduces Smart Bricks — standard LEGO pieces equipped with sensors, lights, sound, and wireless charging that let builds respond dynamically to play without screens. This innovative technology represents one of the most significant changes to LEGO bricks in decades, blending physical creativity with responsive features designed to enhance storytelling and imaginative play. The first SMART Play sets — all themed around Star Wars — are set to launch on March 1, 2026, with pre-orders beginning January 9. These include interactive versions of classic builds such as Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing and Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter, allowing fans to hear sounds and see effects as part of play.
With LEGO SMART Play, the brand is pushing the boundary of what traditional brick building can be, giving fans new ways to make their creations feel alive while still staying true to LEGO’s screen-free play philosophy.
